What Are Some Effective Techniques for Dusting Surfaces in the Home?
Every home needs at least one big clean a year, and for many spring is considered the ideal time! Dusting is a large part of spring cleaning and good task to keep on top of throughout the year. Here are some of our top tips for effective dusting:
- Lightly mist a microfibre cloth with water to help pick up dust
- When dusting wall units and shelving, lift and dust each object, followed by the shelf. Start from the top and work your way down
- Dampen a clean paintbrush to remove dust from objects such as carved furniture, telephones and louvered doors
- Always dust before vacuuming to ensure any dirt that falls on the floor gets removed

How Can You Keep Floors Clean and Shiny Without Using Harsh Chemicals?
The biggest tip for keeping floors clean is to consistently clear clutter, dirt and debris with a soft brush or vacuum. Removing dirt and dust from your floors first means you won’t need to use harsher chemicals for lingering stubborn dirt.
Wipe the floors using a lightly damp mop with a mild detergent or eco-friendly product alternative to get your floors back to a high standard. Start in the far corner of your room, and work towards the door until you’ve covered the entire room.
Don’t forget to rinse your mop often! Once you’ve finished, leave the floor to dry. With wooden floors, be careful you aren’t leaving the wood too wet as this can cause damage.

What Are Some Eco-friendly Cleaning Products That Can Be Used Around the House?
Let’s debunk the myth of eco-friendly cleaning product efficiency! There are plenty of great eco-friendly products out there to help you get a clean home without impacting the planet, or why not try out some homemade methods?
Here are some ideas to try in your home:
- Furniture polish – mix a few drops of lemon oil and 125ml of warm water. Spray onto a soft cloth and wipe your furniture down. To complete the task, wipe again with a dry cloth to remove any excess liquid.
- Grease cleaner – perfect for stubborn marks in your kitchen – add 250ml white vinegar and 1-2tsp of castile soap to a spray bottle, and top with warm water. Give it a shake to combine the ingredients, then spray away!
- Grout cleaner – tackle your shower and bathroom tiles by combining 125ml baking soda, 62ml hydrogen peroxide, and 1 tsp of dish soap. Apply to the grout, wait for 5-10 minutes then scrub away with a toothbrush to get into all those nooks and crannies! Wipe away any excess and rinse for the final finish.
At Molly Maid, we believe in helping the environment, so we use our own eco-friendly cleaning products for each clean!
From a classic multipurpose cleaner to a deodoriser and air freshener, we have the tools to ensure our customers’ homes are fresh and clean the sustainable way.
What Daily, Weekly, and Monthly, Cleaning Routines Can Help Maintain a Clean and Organised Home?
The ideal way to keep your home fresh between your scheduled Molly Maid house cleaning is by separating your cleaning jobs into daily, weekly, and monthly tasks!
By putting tasks into bite-sized chunks, you can clean far more efficiently without the stress of a task being overlooked. We recommend the following:
Daily tasks
Every day, do a little something to kick start maintaining a clean home. These could be making the bed, tackling left-out clutter, putting on a load of laundry, wiping down counters, and checking your floors for unwanted dust and dirt.
Weekly tasks
Next up, weekly tasks! We recommend doing any of these tasks once a week – only do one per day so that you don’t have to do them all in one go each time.
On each day of your choosing, you could be:
- Cleaning your bathrooms
- Dusting rooms from top to bottom
- Vacuuming (and picking up all the dust you’ve wiped from the shelves!)
- Tidying the kitchen
- Washing floors
Leave the weekend for tackling all your laundry, and catching up on any tasks you missed out on in the week.
Monthly tasks
Monthly tasks aim to focus on one large task each time, to have an organised home throughout the year without trying to do everything at once! These tasks may include deep cleaning your oven and appliances, polishing furniture, or washing rugs and carpets.
