Christmas Clean-Up – It’s Easier Than You Think

Traditionally, Boxing Day was when tradesmen collected “Christmas boxes” of money or presents as thanks for good service throughout the year. Today, Boxing Day is a day spent with family, shopping the sales – or cleaning up.

And a quiet day at home after all the festivities is the perfect time to clean up a bit, says the house cleaning experts at MOLLYMAID.

Here’s a guide.

• Recycle what you can!  Cardboard boxes can be recycled, and why not smooth and fold up wrapping paper that hasn’t been torn apart and box up bows that are still in tip top shape for next year. A much loved activity for children is to cutup Christmas cards into shapes that can be used as gift tags for next year’s presents. Or, they can create holiday bookmarks from larger cards.
• Did you receive new clothes? Rather than find new hangers, see if you can donate some of your old clothes and use the hangers they were on to keep clutter down and help those in need.
• Did your children receive lots of new toys?  Do a quick sweep of toys in the toy box and in your children’s rooms. Package up toys your kids have out grown and donate them to children in need.
• Give the house a quick clean in the run-up to the New Year, to pick up those mince pie crumbs and to clean the marks on the kitchen floor from the dozens of people traipsing through the kitchen.
